Thieves
are using your own vehicles electronics to steal your
car. Keyless entry/ start systems are being compromised
by using "relaying", which effectively extends
the range of your car keys.
All it
takes is one person to stand with a box next to your
car, a second person with a similar box then stands
by the house. The signal from the keys is transmitted
between the two boxes, fooling the car that the cars
are next to the vehicle.
All the
thieves then do is open the door and press the start
button. Once started they can drive it away, as long
as they don't stall it or turn it off they can drive
as long as they need to.
There are
many theories, putting keys in tin foil, a fridge,
in a key case, in a safe - with the exception of a
safe none of them work.
Another
answer is a "faraday pouch". They are specifically
designed to block radio waves.
